Free self-check

Health and safety self-check for small employers

Start with who helps you manage safety, your policy, workplace risks, staff preparation, facilities and first aid. Check employers' liability insurance too.

This self-check covers small shop, café, salon and office employers in England only. It is not a complete employer checklist.

Choose Yes / No / Not sure for each question. Choose Yes only when you can explain the arrangement or show the relevant evidence. For a conditional question, choose Yes only after checking that the condition does not apply. Treat Not sure like No: use the next step and check rather than guess. For each No or Not sure, note the gap, next action, responsible person and follow-up date. This is a suggested working format, not a prescribed legal form.

Your answers stay on this page. Nothing is sent, stored or tracked. Reloading clears your answers and plan.

These answer rules and questions are editorial prompts, not a statutory questionnaire. The questions mix legal duties explained by official guidance with practical ways to check them. Employers must protect employees and others from harm: identify hazards, assess risks and eliminate hazards or control risks. Having fewer than five employees does not remove the assessment duty; question 8 concerns recording. Official guidance

This is not professional advice, an inspection or a complete employer checklist. A Yes answer does not prove compliance. Do not add a pass mark or treat an all-Yes set as approval.
